Teaching Common Core Writing Skills to Students with Developmental Disabilities

Webinars | Janet Sturm

The Common Core is bringing writing back with academic expectations for students with even the most challenging needs. How will you support these students in becoming writers? What does writing look like for students with developmental disabilities (including autism) who are scribbling and tracing? How can teachers track writing growth?

In this webinar, Dr. Janet Sturm will answer these questions using her 15+ years of research on writing. She will also show First Author, a new writing tool (just launched) that came out of an NIH grant. This tool guides students through a three-step writing process and supports students with built-in accommodations. The software tracks writing progress automatically and walks teachers through the process of measure writing using a 14-point scale. Janet will illustrate her research with stories from 150+ student and teacher participants.
