“So you want to be one of us?” laughed the Three Musketeers one spring afternoon, when a country boy named d’Artagnan took their side in a fight against the Cardinal’s Guards. The year was 1625, and it was the duty of the Musketeers to protect the honor of the king of France by insulting the cardinal’s men.
“I do!” d’Artagnan answered boldly, kissing his sword. “On guard!”
