Things are bad in the city of Thebes. There is a terrible disease called the plague, and many people are dying. Babies die even before they are born. The people pray to the gods and ask them to end the suffering. Then, King Oedipus, the King of Thebes, gets a message from the gods. The gods tell Oedipus that they have put a curse on the city of Thebes because of a murder that has never been solved. Thebes will be cursed until the king can find and punish the murderer.
