Meet Mr. Munro, homeroom teacher of Room 202 at Lincoln High. Meet Derek Anderson, a basketball star who gets all As. He dreams about leaving his neighborhood and playing ball in college.
Meet Jamal Wilkins. Jamal wants to move away from the neighborhood, too, but he doesn’t go to class very much. He wants to join a gang so he can make money and get some respect. Jamal and Derek used to be best friends, but now they hardly know each other.
Mr. Munro wants Derek to talk Jamal out of joining the gang. But if Jamal and Derek aren’t friends any more, how can Derek help?
And if Derek can’t help Jamal, who can?
