This story takes place at Christmastime in 19th century London, where the lower class suffers at the hands of a brutal winter. Miserly Ebenezer Scrooge couldn't care less about the poor however, and he hates Christmas. Then, one Christmas eve, four ghostly visitors take Scrooge on a guided tour of his past, present, and future. Scrooge is forced to face himself, and by the time the last ghost leaves, he's begging for the chance to change his life.

Mercifully, when Scrooge wakes up, it is Christmas morning. A new man, he leaps out of bed and amuses himself by shocking all who know him with his newfound kindness and generosity.

With its satisfying message about the true meaning of Christmas, the story of A Christmas Carol has been adapted into plays and films.
