  FAQ

Q: My school district bought a subscription to a website that isn’t accessible with our text reader, will Snap&Read work with it?

A:
Snap&Read will read text from nearly all inaccessible websites including (but not limited to) Accelerated Reader, unlocked MAP tests (however their "locked down" proprietary browser blocks accessibility software), Discovery Education webpages, Cognitive Tutor, K12 online curricula, NovaNET, ModuMath, Study Island, and the Flash-based textbook that your textbook publisher included with your district adoption.

Q: Will Snap&Read work with Blackboard?

A:
Blackboard is one of the few websites that doesn't play well with Snap&Read or any other accessibility tools.  Much of the site will work, but Blackboard uses very old technology in several sections of the website that is incompatible with all of the accessibility tools we've tried with it. Future editions of Blackboard may be more accessible because of accessibility lawsuits against universities using the system.

Q: Does the toolbar change in each application?

A: No.  The “toolbar” (if you can call one button a toolbar), stays the same regardless of the application you’re in, and it works with any application that you need to read aloud including (but not limited to) internet browsers for standardized testing, Adobe Acrobat for PDFs, Microsoft Word worksheets, PowerPoint, Inspiration, etc.

Q: My IT staff doesn’t understand the benefit of the literacy supports in Read:OutLoud.  He prefers accessible toolbars that install over the software we already have (i.e. MS Word).  Will Snap&Read make him happy?

A:
Absolutely!  Snap&Read works with the software your school already has, but unlike other accessible toolbar applications, Snap&Read doesn’t change the appearance of your application at all. It will even work on top of Read:OutLoud.

Q: We installed program that works in Microsoft Word, and ever since, we’ve had technical problems with Microsoft Word.  Do I have to install Snap&Read into Microsoft Word?

A: Snap&Read isn’t installed within any of your existing applications, so there is no risk of corruption. Similar to Co:Writer, it is completely self-contained, yet works in conjunction with any of your applications.
