Product Setting: Self-contained high school class. Skill Development: Pix writer is being used to help students who are beginning readers or non readers/writers develop beginning writing skills.

This allows verbal and nonverbal students to organize their writing. We generate a couple of simple sentences about the day or about what we are reading as a group. I clear all the words and students using a track ball or mouse recreate the sentences or other sentences using the picture/word bank. Since we now have a Promethean board in my classroom it is even better. Students who appeared to have been unable to sequence the words to form sentences now can see it and do it.

Product Setting: Preschool program for children with disabilities. Skill Development: Help preschoolers learn to associate their words and thoughts and ideas with pictures and words

Used it in a ppcd classroom with multiple levels of disabilities - was wonderful for the young ones to spark their interest in stories and in creativity.

Product Setting: Resource. Skill Development: Help student write a 3-4 word sentence.

This product works great to help lower students produce written out put. For students that can't spell or read the picture support helps a student independently express themselves. In our district OT helps support these goals. The student gets computer experience and can work on mouse access. I love the options to increase the text size and the number of choices in the grid. You can start the student out with few choices and then easily build on it. You can make word anks for all of you students at there level. That flexibility is great!

Product Setting: I used this program with ASD students and PI students- it is motivating and increases their writing skills- able to get students to complete journal writing and demonstrate understanding of vocabulary, complete simple book reports- we saw growth in every student that had access to this program. Skill Development: It improved writing mechanics- complete sentences, using descriptive words in writing, also it improved spelling and addition of details in writing for ASD students.

Students were able to organize thoughts better with the use of the picture symbols as support, given the choices, they included more detail in their writing and were able to transfer this writing style when they were asked to go to pen and paper- less resistant to make the move to paper. Picture and speech supports were helpful with Physcially impaired student who could not access the computer keyboard thru the headswitch and picture grid- she was able to expess herself- she requested it to make thank you notes, talk about her weekend and retell of stories, she could not get enough out of this- it really brought her out of her shell and allowed us to include her in more "gen ed" activities- go back and write about it kind of things. I am hoping to get the school system I work at now to purchase it as well  -  invaluable.
