This robust unit has been designed to improve computer access with many special features as a speed control key, latching drag switch and buttons that allow only up/down or left/right movements of the cursor.
Cursor movement is achieved by moving the joystick as against rolling the track ball which certain users find easier, particularly those with more severe motor impairments.
All of the switches on the front panel, with the exception of the speed control, can be duplicated with remote switches by using the connector on the rear of the unit . Five cursor speeds can be selected by the pressing the cursor speed switch.

Would Not Be Without One!, April 5, 2009

Our daughter is a teen with CP. and use a windows based augmentative communication device with software for accessing standard pc programs through various methods of scanning and external switches. She has just enough dexterity to access a standard qwery key board (with a consistent number of misses). She began using the joystick plus with a standard mac laptop approx. 7 years ago at home as she discovered the internet. We have since gotten 2nd joystick plus and also 2 bigkeys lx which increased her accuracy and independence alot. It is her method of choice at home for doing her homework and using our computers at home. The bad thing is she does not one at school. I believe she is just as fast if not faster then the scan and switch method she uses on her communication device. My wife and daughter are traveling this weekend and she was unable to take it with her because they had to travel light. This joystick plus is really the only thing she needs to access any computer independently. Needless to say she was disappointed not to have it with (no hotmail or facebook this trip). I was prompted to write this review because i was looking for possibly a 3rd smaller joystick for traveling and just wanted to share how much increased independence and computer access it have given our daughter.
