Mounting Switch Review, July 6, 2010

By reviewer from Alabama

Product Setting: Evaluation clinic. Skill Development: Access to Augmentative Communication devices via head switch.

This switch works great for clients who use their head or chin for access. When other, more sensitive switches are placed at the head, you have to worry about inadvertent hits. With this switch, there is enough feedback to the client to allow for more purposeful activation. Extraneous movement is not as likely to result in activation of the switch. This switch requires a more controlled movement, but is still easy enough for clients with lower cognitive skills. The only negative is in trying to mount the switch, you have to use a very sturdy method so that activation of the switch does not move it on the mount. The base has to be attached very securely with either screws or industrial strength velcro, which will even move with enough pressure.
