Finding funding for the assistive technology you need in your districts is often challenging and can seem overwhelming, but it's not impossible.

However, once funding becomes available, there is often a very short window of time to prepare and submit your proposal. Putting your ideas and wording down on paper now can make this process easier and less stressful on your team.

Federal Grant Programs

NCLB outlines the requirements and funding levels for Pre K-12 education programs that are administered by ED. Under NCLB, funding is available through Federal Entitlement programs and Competitive Grant Programs.

• Federal Entitlement funds are allocated based upon poverty level or the percentage of students on the Free and Reduced Lunch program.
• Competitive Grant funds — focused on explicit program goals such as grade-level reading programs, after-school programs, early literacy initiatives, technology initiatives, or professional development-are awarded to State Education Agencies (SEA) and Local Education Agencies (LEA).
• Race to the Top funds - State specific information.
• Office of Special Education (OSEP) also administers formula and discretionary grants to educational agencies and non-profit organizations for purposes of improving services to Individuals with Disabilities (IDEA 2004).
