Downloading Topic Dictionary: Select the Mac or Win link below each Topic
Dictionary description within a category.
Note on compressed files: The downloadable files have been compressed for faster transmission. You will need to have a copy of WinZip or Stuffit Expander (depending on your system) installed before you can de-compress the files for use. To obtain a copy of WinZip, go to www.winzip.com or www.aladdinsys.com for a free copy of Stuffit Expander.
Once the Topic Dictionary file or files have been downloaded and de-compressed, you will need to copy the Topic Dictionary file(s) into your 'Topics'. The following instructions assume that you want to install the Topic Dictionaries to a CoWriter 6 folder. If you want to install them in the CoWriter SmartApplet or Neo folder, simply locate and use that folder instead.
Download:
- Click on the desired download link to start the download process.
- You should get a File download dialog box asking you "What would you like to do with this file?" Select the option to "Save this file to disk" and click OK. On Mac OS 10.6, you get options to Open this file with Stuffit (or other choices.)
- You will then get a Save As dialog box giving you the opportunity to select the location where you would like to save the file(s) or choose the default location by clicking Save. OnMac OS 10.6, the file automatically saves to the location you have previously set for downloads.
PC Systems - Extract and install the Topic Dictionaries:
- Once the download is complete you will have a file named [dictionary name].zip.
- The file(s) with the extension .zip is the compressed version of the Topic Dictionary file that you downloaded.
- Navigate to the location that contains the Topic Dictionary [file name].zip file(s) you downloaded.
- Double-click the file to open it.
- When asked where to place the file you will need to do the following:
Put it in the Co:Writer 6 Topics folder, located here: C:\Program Files\DonJohnston\CoWriter\Topics. To move one of these topics into another category, such as History, use 'Manage Topics' on the Topics tab in the Co:Writer 6 Preferences window. Start to Finish topic dictionaries can be saved to the following location: C:\Program Files\DonJohnston\CoWriter\Start-to-Finish Topics.
- Once you have navigated to the Topics folder, simply click OK and the file will extract to the Topics folder.
- If Windows asks if you want to overwrite the existing files, select Yes to All.
Mac Systems - Expand:
- Once the download is complete you will have a file named [dictionary name].zip.
- The file(s) with the extension .zip is the compressed version of the Topic Dictionary file that you downloaded.
- Your system may be setup to automatically expand the compressed files during download.
- If automatic expansion occurs, you will have a .zip file (compressed version) and a .cwz (expanded file) for each individual Topic Dictionary you downloaded.
- If your system does not expand the file(s) automatically, simply expand the .zip file(s) by double-clicking on the file to open it.
Mac Systems - Select and install the Topic Dictionaries:
- Locate the expanded file(s) you downloaded.
- Locate the 'Topics' folder and open it. By default for Co:Writer 6, it is installed in the following location: Applications/DonJohnston/CoWriter/Topics. Start to Finish Topic Dictionaries can be saved to the following location: Applications/DonJohnston/CoWriter/Start-to-Finish Topics
- You should now have available: the open Topics folder and the Topic Dictionaries you downloaded.
