Co:Writer 6 students with autism often struggle to translate their words and thoughts into writing. Whether they are writing to communicate because they are non-verbal, or for another purpose, Co:Writer guides even the poorest spellers and most beginning writers. As students attempt to type words, Co:Writer provides contextually and grammatically correct choices, helping them build phrases and sentences. Text-to-speech reads their writing out loud, helping them confirm their intent and correlate the written and spoken word. Students can use Co:Writer with many AAC devices connected to a computer, within email or internet programs and with most word processors.

Write:OutLoud 6 provides the auditory feedback that your students with autism and Asperger’s need to evaluate their own writing. Text-to-speech sometimes sounds a little artificial to us, but that is actually one of the greatest attributes for students with autism because they can spend less time trying to interpret the inflection and intonation, and concentrate their efforts on revising and editing their content.

Draft:Builder 6 will change your perception of graphic organizers as they relate to students with autism and Asperger’s. Many graphic organizers only offer students support in the brainstorming and concept development stage—tasks that are often times too abstract for students with autism and Asperger’s. Working to improve executive function skills, Draft:Builder breaks the entire writing process down into manageable chunks, keeping students focused on each individual task.
